4. Surnames derived from Locality.—Surnames derived from locality, which in England and Scotland form a large class, are but rarely met with in this country, and in most of these cases considerable doubt exists as to whether the surname has been acquired from the locality.

The following surnames amongst others are the names of localities in Ireland:—
