Thirteen and a half miles from Belfast by rail. Market Town and Parish. Important Hosiery centre. Linen and Muslin Manufactories. Important markets and fairs. Market day, Saturday. Weekly half-holiday, every Thursday afternoon. Fair day, second Saturday of each month. Area of parish, 14,837 acres. Parish Population, 11,630. Town Population, 9,110

POST OFFICE, Great Frances Street—Mrs. A. Stewart, Postmistress. Letters from Dublin, Belfast, and England are delivered every morning at 7-30 and 10-25 a.m.; every evening at 2-30 and 6-15 p.m.; and are despatched for Belfast at 7-20 a.m.; and for Belfast, Dublin, and England at 10-25 a.m., 1-20, 3-10, 6-0, and 7-25 p.m. Letters from Scotland arrive at 7-0 a.m., and are despatched at 6-0 and 7-25 p.m. Letters for Conlig are sent off at 7-30 a.m. and 2-25 p.m., and arrive at 11-30 a.m. and 5-0 p.m. Ballywalter, Greyabbey, and Kirkcubbin letters arrive at 10-20 a.m. and a return mail goes to those towns at 2-15 p.m. A motor bus takes letters to Cunningburn, Greyabbey, Ballywalter, Kirkcubbin, Ardkeen, and Portaferry at 7-0 a.m., and arrives here with letters from these towns at 6-0 p.m. Letters from the Upper Ards barony are delivered at 6-15 p.m. on the arrival of the 5-15 down train from Belfast. In connection with the parcel post, parcels are despatched at 10-25 a.m., 5-55 and 7-25 p.m., and received by all mails. There is also a telegraph, savings bank, annuity, insurance, and money order office. On week days rural messengers are despatched at 7-30 a.m.—one to Bowtown, Ballywatticock, Ballyhaft, and Ballyblack; another to Movilla, Cronstown, Loughries, and Killaughey; another to Whitespots, Drumhirk, and Ballyharry; another to Tullynagardy, Ballysallagh, Clandeboye, and Craigantlet; another to Scrabo, Killynether, Ballycullen, Ballyrogan, and Greengraves; and another to Scrabo Isles, Springfield, Brooklands, and Milecross. These messengers deliver and receive letters on the way. Telephone Call Office is situated in Conway square—Operator, Miss Morgan

CONVEYANCES

The Reliance Motor runs between Newtownards and Portaferry. It leaves Portaferry at 7 a.m. and 3 p.m., returning from Newtownards at 10-0 a.m. and 6-0 p.m.

Mary Gordon's car leaves Railway Station, Newtownards, for Portaferry, at 8-10 a.m., and arrives in Newtownards on the return journey at 4-40 p.m.

A motor mail bus leaves Belfast every morning at 6 o'clock, arriving here at 7-0, and in Portaferry at 9-0; it returns from Portaferry at 4-0 p.m., arriving in Newtownards at 6-0 and in Belfast at 7-0

A car runs from Portavogie, via Kirk- cubbin and Greyabbey, in connection with the trains leaving Newtownards for Belfast at 8-50 and 10-34 a.m. A mail car leaves Kirkcubbin for here at 1-40 p.m. A car returns to Portavogie on the arrival of the 1-35, 3-20, and 5-15 p.m. down trains from Belfast

Bangor—Hugh Graham's car arrives at Thomas G. Kirk's, Frances street, at 10-0 a.m., 2-0, 4-30, and 7-45 p.m.. and leaves for Bangor at 9-0 and 11-30 a.m., 2-0, 3-30, and 6-0 p.m. Fare, 6d.

Carrowdore—A car arrives in time to catch the 8-50 a.m. train for Belfast, and leaves on the arrival of the 3-20 p.m. down train. Fare 8d. No service on Sundays

Ballywalter—R. Little's car arrives in time for the 8-50 a.m. train, and leaves on the arrival of the 5-15 p.m. train from Belfast. Fare l0d. No service on Sunday

Ballyhalbert—Every morning (Sundays excepted) a car arrives in time for the 8-50 a.m. train, and leaves on the arrival of the 1-35 p.m. train. Fare 1s.

PUBLIC BOARDS

Joint Burial Board—This body is composed of six town commissioners and the same number of poor law guardians, or persons qualified to be either. Two of each, the highest rated, are ex-officio members, and the remaining eight are elected annually in April. The burial ground is Movilla Cemetery, and the joint burial district embraces the municipality of Newtownards and the electoral divisions of Newtownards and Newtownards South. Meetings are held on the first Tuesday of each month, in the Urban Council's Boardroom. Jas. A.
